'Mountain Songs' Exhibition

I thought it was about time to go up the mountains and paint from the top! I see the Broken Back Mountains every day and it's a big part of my inspiration. It just seemed natural to venture up and explore deep within the landscape, exploring all her ridges, crevasses, foliage, flora, fauna, vistas, and her essence.

Feel the majestic ancient landscape which is relatively untouched apart from fire trails. That's where I have been the last few months. Creating a new body of work for an upcoming exhibition at Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre which opens May 8th.

But, it wasn't all pretty views! Insects, bugs, dust, scratchy plants and dangerous ridges were also experienced. All of it found its way into the paint and on the canvas!

The work is often layered, free, expressive with marks loose and loads of colour. There is nothing for me to romanticize while being up there and immersed in this environment. I also wanted to encapsulate the ancient and spiritual connection which I feel while sitting on a rock on the edge of an escarpment.

It was such a special experience and I can't wait to you show the new suite of work.

I'll send out a preview catalogue to everyone on my mailing list before the show opens. If you would like to receive one please sign up here .

I can't wait to share it with you.

Yours in art,
Bec xoxo
