About
Rebecca Rath is a New South Wales Hunter Valley-based artist specialising in oil painting and drawing.
After beginning her artistic journey at Hornsby TAFE College (NSW) in 1992, she pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) at College of Fine Art (COFA) University of New South Wales. There she blended practical college experience with academic rigour at university completing a final year with honours.
For over 20 years, Rebecca has been a professional artist, with a focus on en plein air painting and drawing. Her work, characterised by energetic, intuitive mark-making and rich textures, has been exhibited both in Australia and internationally, earning recognition for its dynamic expression and deep connection to the natural environment where she lives.
"Rath’s relationship to these landscapes, then, is embodied, and the paintings foreground the haptic experience which is their basis. Her brush strokes are gestural – broad, free – and her colours expressive. They emphasise the painter (and the paint), rather than insisting on power to represent the painted land. "

For me, I feel at peace when I’m sitting outside painting. Nestled amongst the scrub with my tools in hand - it is my happy place.
