Oil Landscape Workshop

Looking to try your hand at oil painting but not sure where to start?

Oil paints are a beautiful medium with an exceptional level of flexibility and depth of colour. They can be used in so many ways, from thin glazes mixed with medium to dense thick impasto. As they are slower to dry, it means you can keep working with the paint for much longer than other types of mediums - but the trick is knowing when to stop!

I will take you on a historical journey of landscape painting with a focus on Australian impressionism where I will demonstrate the techniques used by artists such as Streeton and Conder.

This class can be adapted to all skill levels, from beginners to more experienced painters wanting to brush up on their techniques. Classes are limited to 5 students.

Enjoy painting the view of the Hunter Valley from my little studio and en plein air.

Classes include:
- Tuition
- Morning tea/afternoon tea (Lunch optional)
- A walk through our vineyard
- Access to a vast art library
- Private working studio

Please get in touch if you would like to discuss booking a class.

Soft Pastel Workshop

Keen to stretch some creative muscles and learn a little more about using the beautiful medium of soft pastels?

Join me at our little farm for a day of soft pastel exploration and fun.

Used by artists for centuries, soft pastels are a portable medium that enables colourful creations without the need for water, brushes, or palettes. Whether you're a beginner or have a little experience under your belt, I can help you to develop your skills in blending, layering, highlighting, and shading (just to name a few).

Classes begin with an understanding of the medium and an exploration of mark-making before we begin a realised work. We also look at aspects such as composition, tone, and marks that help to create a successful work.

Classes are limited to 5 students. This workshop is for all levels of experience especially beginners.

Classes include:
- Tuition
- Morning tea/afternoon tea (Lunch optional)
- A walk through our vineyard
- Access to a vast art library
- Private working studio

Charcoal Workshop

Interested in developing your skills using charcoal?

Let me show you how to develop a beautiful drawing with this relatively simple drawing material.

An expressive and portable medium, charcoal was one of the very first tools humans used to make artworks and appear in cave paintings dating back 28,000 years. Often used for sketching and under-drawing for paintings, it is also used for quick sketches and resolved skillful drawings.

Visit me in my studio where I will help you develop your mark-making style. I will demonstrate various techniques to help you create works which are your signature method. I will help you gain confidence in this diverse drawing technique by developing your unique marks. We will explore traditional techniques such as blending, smudging together with contemporary mark-making processes. We will also look at artists such as Degas, Van Gogh, Auerbach, and Australian artist John Wolseley for inspiration.

I am passionate about this medium and I hope you will enjoy it too.
