No longer being a passive viewer, I decided to go into the mountains and paint from the mountains eye – a view from the top. After reading the work of American John Muir, I decided to explore deep into the mountains. See the world from her eyes. Dive deep into her landscape, explore all her ridges, crevasses, foliage, flora, fauna, vistas, and her essence. My intention was to create an emotional response to not only her ability to rejuvenate after the bush fires of 2019/2020 but her ordered chaos.
A 4WD was needed to access the mountains. There was a real sense of exploration and excitement to traveling up to ranges. There were many bugs, animals, scratchy plants and dangerous ridges to traverse. Using the tools of painting and drawing to create an emotional response, I intuitively expressed what I was experiencing while up there. I didn’t seek a photo-realism approach but more of an expressive response to the subject.
